The Most Unusual Snow Racing Weekend on the Western Slope
If you’re reading this, you enjoy that marvelous feeling of controlled speed–the moment you realize your skis or snowshoes or your fatbike are no longer foreign, but an extension of your body, leveraging the snow, creating a oneness of nature, human, and metal. That’s the moment you become a racer. Though that feeling is all yours, you are not alone in feeling it. The western slope is bristling with snow racers of all ages, and Odin Recreation and MAD Racing teamed up with YOU in mind to bring you a weekend filled with the best races we could create.
The First Annual 2019 Winter Sports Festival and will be the first event on the western slope to feature a whole weekend of kids and adult races for Nordic skis,
snowshoes, and fatbikes. You read that right–fatbikes. Not only are they welcome, we even have a special MADHorn Fatbike Race for you to show off your calf power. Friday is a vendor fair where you can try out the latest in snow gear, enjoy libations by a bonfire, and cheer on the Ziggy Stardusk snowshoe racers. Saturday is jammed packed with the return of the Barneloppet Nordic ski race for kids, skate ski races for adults, and of course fatbike racing. But if you’re really hard core– hungry to push yourself harder than ever before–Sunday’s Winter-a-thon is all yours: every racer uses Nordic skis, snowshoes and a fatbike to get the finish line triathlon style. It’s the only Winter-a-thon on the western slope!
Admission is free, and racing registrations vary from $10 – $90. Folks can race individually or as a team. Need some racing pointers? Coach Toby is available for your private, advanced skate ski clinic for only $50. Call him now to make your appointment at 970-618-7062.
Have you met John Klish yet? He’s the owner of MAD Racing, on-fire for racing sports, and a fascinating person. He and his marketing director, Maya Kraushaar, will be guests on the Snow Sports on the Grand Mesa Radio Show on KAFM 88.1 Monday, February 11 at noon to talk more about the 2019 Winter Sports Festival. You can live stream it here.
